Hi, everybody,

I decided to open this topic to discuss systematic trading and strategy development in a "quantitative" way.

At the moment, I decided to move away from metatrader, which I mainly used to test and develop my trading strategy [stupid, yes, I know]. I've been looking at all kinds of platforms and they all seem to be quite different from what I'm looking for, so I'm going to create my own test platform during the thread and discuss the process [more on this during the thread].

I'm going to go a little different route than most people (well, at least most retailers) and use a database to store all the data. At this point, I already have a solid schema with 1-minute data from 2001 stored for all specialties, so if anyone wants to get some idea of daily ranges, etc., feel free to ask that it will take about 5 seconds to see a statistical table of London opening ranges, for example. I'm also going to use the database a little differently than most people, but again, more on that later.

I'm also going to discuss how to separate the elements from the system and what the system actually does [hint: there are three elements that can be divided into smaller elements], and hope to get some ideas on how to further clarify this.

I also hope that we can find some quantifiable edges during the flow, but it's still something completely open, and I hope to get some insights from people following the flow.

I plan to add automation to automatically detect add-ons to the systems I plan to test, but this is kind of advanced stuff, and maybe I should talk about it after the main work is done [?].

I want to warn people that I have a background in technology, and I've been programming for 15 years [and trading just under 10 more or less actively, in some years I haven't traded at all], so sometimes I completely underestimate how difficult technical things are for some people, feel free to ask anything.
