My natural hair is thick, curly, & dark brown. Similar to yours only the curls are bigger.
I suggest you go to a salon and have these done:
Cut to a V-shape
Tip of the V just below the shoulder blades
Have the stylist trim thin your hair volume (layered V-cut)
Shampoo every other day. Use conditioner once a week.
