I have never had a gucci belt and I have no idea how to differ a fake from an original one

I suppose your friend hasn't bought the belt from a specialized store because if he did that, he wouldn't have that issue. You know, there are a lot of fake manufactures on the market. Nowadays it's possible to buy a Gucci belt with less than 100$. I am not against fakes. I also have a couple of fake things, that I bought at a good price and are of very good quality. Regarding your question, I think you have to read more information about shopping for Gucci belts and you'll understand either your friend's belt is fake or not.
