Blog commenting provide no follow backlinks for your website. Hence these backlinks are helpful to drive traffic to your website only. They do not help to rank keywords higher in search engines.

Most of the time you get no follow backlink from blog commenting. But if you can maintain ratio od do follow and no follow and you can comment on niche website then it will be definitely helpful for you.
