Architectures and models are key components of every organization. An organization's success depends on the in-depth understanding provided by architectures and models. However, the traditional architectures and models in most organizations are disparate and compromise that in-depth understanding, which ultimately impacts business success.
One major problem is the distinction between architectures and models. Another is the versioning of architectures and models. A third is the variety of formats and notations used on models. Each of these problems leads to uncertainty and lost time resolving that uncertainty.
The resolution of these major problems is contemporary architectures and models that maximize business understanding with minimal effort. Contemporary architectures contain a complete trinity of detail, consisting of descriptive, structural, and integrity components. They are persistent, evolve over time, and have no format or notation for display.
Contemporary models represent a subset of detail contained in an architecture, and have a format and notation suitable to the creator or recipient. They are used to build and maintain comparate architectures with model-driven architecture techniques, and to portray architectures with architecture-driven model techniques. They are a transient snap-shot and are not updated.
Contemporary architectures are dynamic and do not have a version. The detail in the architecture has a chronology stamp that is used to prepare current or historical models. Contemporary models have a chronology stamp showing when the model was prepared, which is the version. They may have another chronology stamp showing the historical date of the architecture represented by the model.
Symmetry and perspective play a key role in contemporary architectures and models. Architectures have symmetry and models show a perspective of that symmetry. An organization must understand the symmetries and perspectives from the business environment, through the business niche, to and their organization to be successful.
The Data / Processes Resource Management series presents concepts, principles, and techniques, formal terms with denotative definitions, and the benefits of evolving to formal management of a combined data / processes resource. The series is beneficial for technical data and processes professionals, business professionals, and their respective managers.
