I recently visited the Western Cape region of South Africa and took some pictures of road signs.
First, an old-style highway distance sign with a separate route shield and FHWA type. I've seen a few of these highways in the Western Cape, but they're pretty rare in 2019. New style of road distance sign without shielding with DIN type. This is the current standard, and it has almost completely replaced the old signs in the toilet. One destination is not the norm, but both were made on remote sections of highway on the map.

What do you think about it?

I remember a few similar signs when I was driving from West Africa to South Africa. For the first time, we were sent to do research on the birds of Africa, and these old-fashioned signs were very different from what we see every day in the United States. We saw a few more even older signs in Kenya when we drove up to our destination. We drove to a place with the most tremendous variety of species (https://www.natureswonderlandsafaris.com/safaris/kenya-birding-safaris/) including rare species that were particularly interesting to us. It was an unforgettable journey, and moments like this made our joy complete.

Wow, I'd love to see that, too.
